Gagan's Catharsis
Gagan was very upset when he returned from school. The reason was not something new. As usual, he had flunked in Maths with the least score in his class of twenty-five students. He went straight to his room and sat doing nothing until his father came back from his office an hour later. His heart sank at the footsteps of his father and he dreaded coming face to face with him.
Soon his father called him to the living room and looking at his face, at once realized there was something wrong. When Gagan told his father about his poor performance in Mathematics. His father first asked him what the problem was. When he wasn't able to give any satisfactory answer his father became very angry with Gagan and scolded him for not giving time to practice Maths in his schedule. He gave his own example how he would practice daily for forty to fifty minutes. He also told him that he always topped in Maths in his class. Gagan felt more miserable when he realized how he was a cause of trouble for his father. Though he had dinner with everyone, his mind wandered thinking about the reason why he wasn't able to score well.
Next morning when he reached school and stood in the line for assembly, Amit who had scored full marks stood just before him. As there were a few minutes for the assembly to start he was discussing Maths questions with two of his friends. In his gloom, he tried to understand what they were talking and what Amit was explaining. He felt a sudden pang of self-condemnation. And at that moment he resolved to work hard to cover the gap. He decided to ask his father to teach him daily for a few days and help him revise basic concepts. He had a strong desire to reach a level where he could stand and discuss complicated topics with Amit. And this realization brought a new beginning...
