Burnt bricks have high strength while unburnt bricks have low strength. Burnt bricks are further classified into:

1. First Class Bricks - They are thoroughly burnt. They have a good colour and a regular shape. They are free from flaws.

2. Second Class Bricks - They are fully burnt. They may have some irregularity in shape, colour and size.

3. Third Class Bricks - They are not burnt as much as the former ones. They have a uniform reddish yellow colour. They may have some defects.

4. Fourth Class Bricks - They are over burnt and are dark in colour. They are irregular in shape.
