when iron nails are dipped in copper sulphate solution then being fe more reactive it will diplace, copper from its solution and form its own ions, means here displacement reaction will happen in first case and solution became colourless but in second case no reaction will takes place. hope its help you..

In test tube 1 when student A adds iron nails to the copper sulphate solution, the reaction takes places where iron displaces copper from copper sulphate.

The equation is,

CuSO₄ + Fe = FeSO₄ + Cu

But when student B adds copper turning to the ferrous sulphate solution, the reaction will not take place. This is because iron is more reactive than copper. Hence copper cannot displace iron.

The equation is,

FeSO₄ + Cu = No reaction.

The change of colour takes place is test tube 1.

The blue colour of copper sulphate fades away to green with the formation of FeSO₄

Reactivity series plays an important role in this reaction.

Hope this helps u.
