Answer:

2465

Step-by-step explanation:

6 : 11

Let's assume it is X :-

6x = 870

x = 145

Amount of students in school:-

6x + 11x

= 17x

= 17(145)

= 2465

Solution :

Sum of the terms of the ratio  = 6 + 11 = 17

Let x be the total number of students in the school .

∴ No.of students in the first group

 = \frac{6}{17}  \: of \: x  \\ ⇒870 =  \frac{6}{17}  \: of \: x \\ ⇒x = 870  \times  \frac{17}{6}  = 2465

The total number of students in the school = 2465

Note :

Whenever we say that two numbers are in ratio 2 : 3 , we can write them as 2x and 3x.

Similarly, three numbers in the ratio 4 : 5 : 8 can be written as 4x , 5x and 8 x
