total no of students = 50×24 = 1200

no. of students in each row when arranged in 40 rows

= 1200/40 =30 students

product of no. of rows, r and no. of students in each row s is constant

this implies r,s are inversely proportional

so r1×s1 = r2×s2

50×24 = 40×s2

s2= 50×24/40 =30
