 Let \: number \:of \: students \: participated \\\:in \:a \: picnic = x

 Total \: amount = Rs\:480x

 If \: 3 \: more \: students \: joined \:then \\Total \: number \:of \:students = ( x + 3 )

 Cost \:of \: each \: student\: would \:have \\decreased\: by \:Rs\:3

 Cost \: of \:each \: student \:become = (480-3)\\= Rs \:477

 Total \: amount = 477( x + 3 )

 \implies 480x = 477( x + 3 )

 \implies 480x = 477x + 1431

 \implies 480x - 477x  = 1431

 \implies 3x = 1431

 \implies x = \frac{1431}{3}

 \implies x =Rs \: 477

Therefore.,

 \red { Number \: of \: students \: participated}

 \red { in \:the \: picnic } \green { = Rs\:477}
