(r+5)×(c-5)=X

solve these simultaneous equations,we get

10r-5c-50=0

-5r+5c-25=0

Given  : Students of a class are arranged in rows and columns. If there are 5 less rows, then there are 10 more number of columns formed and if there are 5 more rows, then number of columns formed are reduced by 5.

To find : total number of students in the class

Solution:

Let say number of rows =  R

& Number of columns  = C

Total Students  = RC

If there are 5 less rows, then there are 10 more number of columns formed

=  ( R - 5) (C + 10)

= RC  - 5C + 10R  - 50

RC  - 5C + 10R  - 50 = RC

=> 10R - 5C = 50

=> 2R - C  = 10   Eq1

if there are 5 more rows, then number of columns formed are reduced by 5

= ( R + 5) (C - 5)

= RC  + 5C - 5R  - 25

RC  + 5C - 5R  - 25  = RC

=>  5C - 5R = 25

=> C - R  = 5    Eq2

Eq1  + Eq2

=> R =  15

C = 20

Students = RC = 15 * 20  = 300

total number of students in the class   = 300
