Students of class are made to stamd in rows.If ome student is extra in a row,there would be two rows less.If one student is less then there would be 3 rows more .Find no.Of stufents in class

Let number of rows =  x

No. of students in a row = y

Total number of students = xy

Given that:

(x - 2)(y + 1) = xy

⇒xy + x - 2y - 2 = xy

⇒x - 2y = 2 -------(1)

(x + 3)(y - 1) = xy

⇒xy - x + 3y - 3= xy

⇒ -x + 3y = 3 -------(2)

On Solving equations (1) and (2),

y = 5 and put it equation (1)

x = 12

Hence, total number of students = xy

                                                         = 12 × 5

                                                         = 60
