a.) X is a stem tendril and Y is a leaf tendril.

b.) They help in holding weak stemmed plants like climbers upright.

c.) The phenomenon depicted is thigmotropism. Thigmotropism means moment of the plant in response to touch.

d.) X arises from an axillary bud and Y arises directly from the branch of the plant.

e.) X is found in vitis and passiflora etc and Y is found in pea, sweet pea and wild pea etc.

X: Stem tendrils, Y: Leaf tendrils.

(ii) Functions : Stem and leaf tendrils enable the plant to climb up a support.

(iii) Thigmotropism is depicted here in the figure. It is the growth movement of plant parts in response to touch stimulus.

(iv) Stem tendrils arise from the stem while leaf tendrils arise from the leaf of the plant.
