Answer:

Given:

A circuit has been provided consisting of battery, resistors and switch.

To Find:

Potential difference across 5 ohm resistor.

Calculation:

First we shall find out find out the net current passing throughout the circuit.

Net resistance of the circuit will be algebraic addition of individual resistance as they are in series combination :

R eq. = 3 + 4 + 5 = 12 ohm

Net current through the circuit :

I = V/R = 3/12 = 1/4 = 0.25 ampere

Potential difference across 5 ohm resistor will be :

= Net Current × Individual resistance

= 1/4 × 5

= 5/4

= 1.25 Volts

So final answer is :

 \boxed{ \red{ \sf \: Potential \:  Difference \: req. = 1.25 \: volt \: }}

QUESTION -

See the above attachment...

Study the following circuit and calculate the potential difference across 5 Ω resistor.

SOLUTION -

In the above figure , three resistors are connected in series

Their net Resistance - 3 OHm + 4 Ohm + 5 Ohm = 17l2 Ohm

V => 3 V

According to Ohm ' s law,

V = IR

Where, .

V is the voltage across the circuit.

I is the current flowing in the circuit .

R is the resistance of the circuit.

I = 3 / 12 Ohm = ( 1 / 4 ) Ohm .

For the 5 Ohm Resistor ,

V = 5 × ( 1 / 4 ) = ( 5 / 4 ) Volts.
