In the given figure contour interval is 50 feet. It is determined as follows:

Let’s take an example of two contour lines which are labelled.

Point D is marked at 10,000 elevation and the next label is marked as 10,500 elevation.

10,500-10000=500 feet

Between these two contour lines if we count, there are 10 counter lines.

500/10=50

That means each counter line has 50 feet difference.

We can cross check it as follows:

50 * 10 ( as there are 10 contour lines between 10.500 labelled and 10000 labelled points ) = 500 feet.
