Alligators have a U-shaped round about while crocodiles have a V-Shaped round snout. Alligators only reside in fresh waters, whereas crocodiles live in both fresh and saline water. The upper jaw of an alligator is wider than its lower jaw, but a crocodiles upper jaw and lower jaw are the same size. Where the alligators upper teeth are only visible when its mouth is closed, you can see both sets of teeth of a crocodile. Alligators don't have functioning salt glands but crocodiles do. Alligators only have sensory pits near their jaws whereas crocodiles have sensory pits on every scale of their body.
