Subhash Chandra Bose was the son of a wealthy and prominent Bengali lawyer.
He went to England for higher studies after graduating from Kolkata collage in 1919. He passed
the Indian civil service(CS) examination held in England but resigned the coveted job to dedicale
himself to the cause of his country's freedom.
The massacre of Jallianwala Baug at Amritsar in 1919 had sent a wave of horror and
indignation throughout the country. Bose believed that his country's freedom could come only
through and armed struggle. His activates led to his imprisonment several times. The story of
his escape in disguise from Kolkata to Kabul and then to Berlin showed his extraordinary courage.
A gallant fighter, Bose finally reached Tokyo and assumed leadership of the Indian independence
