Litmus. we can even create at home.

  1. Aim: To find out the given substances are acidic or basic using turmeric as an indicator.
  2. Principle: Indicators are the substances used to test whether a substance is acidic or basic. The indicators  change their colour when added to a solution containing an acidic or basic substance. Turmeric is yellow in  acid and neutral substances, but turns bright red with bases.
  3. Materials needed: Lime juice, Vinegar, Baking soda, Soap solution, Washing powder, plain white paper,  turmeric powder (1 spoon), water, dropper or spoon.
  4. Procedure:

• Take a tablespoon full of turmeric powder in a bowl and make a paste with a little water.

• Take a filter paper /white paper and uniformly apply turmeric paste over it and leave it to dry for 15- 20 minutes.

• Cut thin strips of the yellow paper obtained.

• Collect Lime juice, Vinegar, Baking soda, Washing powder , Soap solution,

• One by one, put a drop of each of these solution on the strip of yellow turmeric paper.
