Given :  p (x) = 7 x² + 6x - 1 , q (x) = 6x -9

subtract  q (x) from p (x)

To Find : the degree of the resultant polynomial

Solution:

p (x) = 7 x² + 6x - 1

q (x) = 6x -9

subtract  q (x) from p (x)

p(x) - q(x)

=  7 x² + 6x - 1  - (6x - 9)

= 7 x² +8

resultant polynomial is  7 x² +8

Highest power is 2

Hence degree of the resultant polynomial   7 x² +8  is  2

Degree is 2
