During day time guard cells perform photosynthesis and glucose is produced. This increases the amount of solute and rises the osmotic pressure inside the guard cells.

Adjoining cells have more solvent concentration.

Endosmosis occurs and solvent molecules move from their region of heigh concentration to lower concentration.

Guard cells become turgid and their thin wall bluges outwards. Diffusion of gases in and out take place.

During night time, the roots sense the shortage of water, therefore gradual loss of water takes place.

Answer:-

The daytime guard cells of the plant leaf start the process of photosynthesis and the sugar produced in the cells results in increase of osmotic pressure giving rise to endosmosis and solvent molecules move from higher to lower concentration.
