The energy yield from glucose is often stated as the yield per liter of oxygen, which would be 5.1 kcal per liter or 21.4 kJ per liter. This energy yield could be measured by actually burning the glucose and measuring the energy liberated in a calorimeter.

Answer:

Sugar is of two types Simple sugars and Compound sugars.

Explanation:

Sugars are carbohydrates which are soluble.

  1. The simple sugars are the Monosaccharides Eg; Glucose, Galactose.
  2. The compound sugars are the Disaccharides Eg; Sucrose (glucose + fructose).
  3. Compound sugars are double sugars.
  4. The regular sugar we use is sucrose.
  5. It is consumed directly or indirectly by man.
  6. Each gm of Sugar supplies 4cal. Generally, people consume 270calories from added sugar.
  7. Therefore, sugar supplies at about 10% of the total energy intake by man.

Therefore, the 10% of the energy that is totally consumed is given by sugars.
