Suggest a method of reduction for the following metals during their metallurgical processes:
(i) metal ‘A’ which is one of the last, second or third position in the reactivity.
(ii) metal ‘B’ which gives vigorous reaction even with water and air.
(iii) metal ‘C’ which is kept in the middle df activity series.

Hello,

1. as A are least reactive metals, so they can we find in pure state, they will not be find in combined state because they are least reactive metals, so they are extracted by the process of oxidation.

2. as B are most reactive metal, they are extracted by the process of electrolysis.

3. as C are medium reactive metals, they are extracted by ==>

Carbonate ore. | sulphide ore
=>calcination. | roasting

then, metal oxides==> reduction to metal==>refining.

Hey bhiyya !!!

1). metals like

gold (Au).

silver(Ag).

platinum (pt).

these are less reactive metal and occur in nature in free state.

this type of metal can be extracted by hitting the sulphide in air.

or reducing by heating only.

for eg--

Ag2S +O2 =>. Ag2O. + SO2 .

(silver Sulphide). + (oxygen)=> (silver oxide) + ( sulpher dioxide).

now ,,

Ag2O. heat =>> Ag. + O2 .

now,
the silver in the pure form is obtained.

this is the method of metallurgy of low reactivity series metals.

2) metal which reacts vigorously with water as well as air is :-

this metal are highly reactivity metal

this type of metal can be extracted or do metallurgical process by electrolysis of molten chloride or oxide.

the process of electrolysis is shown in the figure.

3) metallurgical process of moderate, medium reactivity series.

this type of metal can be extracted by using the two processes.

1) calcination:-

cancellation is a process in which carbonate Ore is heated below its melting point in absence of oxygen.

for eg--

ZnCO3 heated =>. ZnO + Co2.

2) Roasting :-roasting is process in which OS are strongly heated in presence of oxygen or a air below its melting point and converted into metal oxide.

for example:-

ZnS + O2 => ZnO + SO2.

when the metals of medium reactivity series come in the form of oxide they are doing auto reduction process to get pure metal.

the get the metal oxide from roasting and calcination.

now they are doing auto reduction process.

in the auto reduction process we generally use carbon.

for example:-

ZnO+ C =>Zn+ CO2.

now the pure metal is obtained.

hence the metallurgy of medium reactivity series can be done by roasting and calcination.

after that the process of auto reduction.

after that we reduce with auto reduction agent like carbon and we get pure metal.

hope it helps!!!!
