Suggest a reason for each of the following observations:
A) Magnesium powder reacts faster than magnesium ribbon, with dilute sulphuric acid.

B)Hydrogen peroxide decomposes much faster in the presence of the enzyme catalase.

C)The reaction between manganese carbonate and dilute hydrochloric acid speeds up when some concentrated hydrochloric acid is added.

Answer:

A) Powdered Mg has the greater surface area as compared to that of Mg ribbon and the increased surface area allows the better interaction with sulfuric acid and hence more reaction takes place

B) Basically a catalyst increase the surface area so the reaction could easily take place.Hydrogen peroxide can easily decomposed by enzyme catalase, because it is a protein catalyst which catalysed the reaction
