the thumb is part of the hands ,it is the thicker and shorte first finger ,in human beings ,apes and some organisms ,the thumb has a crusial function

The thumb helps in grasping hence it has to be adapted to its function

In human beings tbe thumb is known as apossable finger because it can move around to touch the other fingers

Having apposable thumb helps in grasping objects ,holding objects and eating with ease

It has a nail that helps one hold hot objects
