If you find any communal hate spreading person, answer him on his view in simple and polite manner. Don't reply them with anger or hate, it will increase their insecurity as they are already occupied with insecurities.
Be secular or follow your belief/religion but be open-minded to other's beliefs/religions. Read and observe every other prominent religion. Every religion has some good, beautiful and fascinating things. You can also enjoy celebrating other's festivals and paying visits to their religious places and welcome others for your own.
Don't force your religion on anyone and if someone forces theirs, ignore them.
If you hear something offending about your religion reply them logically or ignore if that is baseless. If you believe in your god remember he is the creator of universe which has many galaxies, galaxies which have many solar systems, solar systems which has many planets and one of these is earth and in earth we are tiny human beings. We don't have standard to insult that almighty god.
Think about most peaceful and loving person born on this planet. God is million times sane and divine than her/him. So spreading communal hatred is not something that divinity will embrace for the reason that one almighty created people of all religions.
And if you see some communal violence, act keeping country and constitution in mind, not religion.

By showing respect to the religion of others.
By celebrating various functions together.
By explaining others about the need for paying respect to the religion and social practices of people belonging to different faiths.
By preventing activities that exploit the rights of other communities.
