We must encourage people to behave like civilised members of society, especially in public places.
In schools, colleges and homes, we must teach people to respect girls and women as much as their male counterparts. Parents should bring up their sons and daughters identically; no preferential treatment should be extended to the boys.
As a society, we must encourage people to be helpful and respectful towards the old, the physically challenged and the weak.
We must be more respectful, than most of us are today, towards our servants, drivers, security personnel and so on. This is very important and should be encouraged.
We must educate our people to be more polite towards others than we are today. Rudeness is not becoming of decent human beings.
Punctuality and cleanliness must also be encouraged. Not acquiring these two qualities does not speak well of a person.
All of the above must be taught at the early stages of life. Parents, teachers and elders must lead by example. The Government must use mass media to encourage people to smoothen the rough edges of their character. Film-makers must make documentaries and feature films that carry the message of these positive character traits.
