Explanation:

The 'Bishnois' considered trees as sacred. They have affection for animals too. They not only preserve them, but also give their best efforts to provide their necessities and favorable atmosphere.

Bishnoi woman Amrita Devi showed an act of exemplary courage by hugging a tree to stop king's men to cut her first before cutting the tree as the tree mattered much more to her than her own life, the tree was cut down along with Amrita Devi and later her three daughters & hundreds of other Bishnois lost their lives.

Women and communities have played a major role in environmental conservation movements.

(i) Case study of the bishnoi community: TheBishnoi community in Rajasthan strictly believes in the concept of living peacefully with nature. In 1731, the king of Jodhpur ordered his ministers to arrange wood for the construction of his new palace. For this purpose, the minister and the workers went to bishnoi village. There, a Bishnoi woman called Amrita Devi along with her daughter and hundreds of other Bishnois showed the courage to step forward and stop them from cutting trees. They embraced the trees and lost their lives at the hands of soldiers of the king. This resistance by the people of the village forced the king to give up the idea of cutting trees.

Answer: Bishnoi  is a sect found in the Western Thar Desert and northern states of India. They follow a set of 29 principles/commandments given by Guru Jambeshwar. They are not a caste but a sect of Hinduism. As of 2019, there are an estimated 960,000 followers of Bishnoi residing in north and central India. Shree Guru Jambeshwar founded the sect at Samrathal Dhora in 1485 and his teachings, comprising 120 shabads, are known as Shabadwani. He preached for the next 51 years, travelling across India. The preaching of Guru Jambhoji inspires his followers as well as the environmental protectors.
