Various ways in which you can conserve water are:

Adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk, or street.

When washing dishes by hand, don't let the water run while rinsing. Fill one sink with wash water and the other with rinse water.

Monitor your water bill for unusually high use. Your bill and water meter are tools that can help you discover leaks.

If your shower fills a one-gallon bucket in less than 20 seconds, replace the shower head with a water-efficient model.

When cleaning out fish tanks, give the nutrient-rich water to your plants.

Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, shaving, washing your hands, or rinsing dishes or vegetables. Each minute you have it off saves at least 3 gallons.

Use biodegradable (phosphate-free) detergents and soaps and re-use dishwater in the garden.

Plant densely in your garden because the denser the vegetation, the more water is stored in what is known as "productive biomass," meaning food plants.

Answer:

Ways to conserve water

Water conservation is the practice of using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary water usage. Water conservation is important because fresh clean water is a limited resource and mankind, animals, birds and all all life forms need water for survival. Some ways to conserve water and prevent wasting of water are:

  1. Fix any leak in your toilet quickly. Check for leaks in water pipes both inside and outside the house.
  2. Do not waste water by taking unnecessary long showers.
  3. Water your lawns only when necessary and not when you like to.
  4. While brushing your teeth or shaving, turn off the tap when not in use.
  5. Rinse your vegetables in a bowl instead of washing them in a running water tap.
  6. Water your lawn only when it needs it and not as and when you want to.
  7. When washing your car, adopt an efficient way and do not waste water.
  8. Plant drought-resistant trees and plants. There are many beautiful trees and plants which thrive with less water.
  9. Use efficient irrigation systems.
  10. Children love to play under a hose or sprinkler on a hot day. But this practice is wasteful of precious water and should be discouraged.

Water is a finite resource. If not managed properly it will result in acute scarcity in the future. Let us conserve water for the preservation of human life and other life forms on Earth.
