1. W has 1 electron extra whereas X needs 1 electron in order to attain the stable electronic configuration of its nearest inert gas. Hence, W will donate and X will accept electron resulting in an ionic bond.

2. Z has only 1 electron hence it needs 1 electron to attain the stable electronic configuration of its nearest inert gas whereas Y also needs 1 electron. Hence, both Y and Z will share their 1 electron with each other forming a covalent bond.

(ii)

1. The valency of X is -1 whereas that of Z is +1. Hence, ZX compound will be formed.

2. The valency of W is -1 whereas that of X is +1. Hence, XW compound will be formed.
