Answer:   (x + 12) + x = 72

                 (x + x) + 12 = 72

                    2x  + 12  = 72

                             2x = 72 - 12

                                  = 60

                                x = 60 / 2

                                   = 30

u can check the answer if u want just but the number 30 in places of "x"

hope it helps:)

Step-by-step explanation:

let the two numbers be x and y

→ x + y = 72 ....(1)

if one no. exceed the other by 12 means

x increases by 12 means (y + 12)

→ x = (y+12) .....(2)

putting value of eq (2) in 1st

y + 12 + y = 72

2y = 72-12

2y = 60

y = 30

if we put y value in equation (2)

x = 30 + 12

x = 42
