Answer:

FOR FIRST CONDITION X>Y :X=8 Y=3

FOR SECOND CONDITION Y>X: Y=8 X=3

Step-by-step explanation:

LET THE NUMBERS BE X AND Y

IT IS GIVEN

X + Y=11

AND

X-Y=5

FROM FIRST EQUATION WE CAN SAY X=11-Y

SUBSTITUTING THIS IN SECOND

11-Y-Y=5

11-2Y=5

6=2Y

Y=3

X=8

THUS THE TWO NUMBER ARE 3 AND 8

IF THE SECOND EQUATION WAS LIKE

Y-X=5

THEN Y-11+Y=5

2Y=16

Y=8

X=3

SOLUTION

____________________________

Let the first number be x .

then second number=11-x

a/q

11-x-x=5

11-2x=5

-2x=5-11

or,-x=-6

or,x=6/2

or,x=3

hence, first number=x=3

and second number=11-x=11-3=8
