so it's GIVEN;

Seema's age + Rani's age = 40

that is,

  • x + y = 40 ....(1)

and it is said the ratio of their ages are 3:5

that is,

  • x:y = 3:5...(2)

now let's find the value of x from (2),

x:y = 3:5

x/y = 3/5

in cross multiplying, we get,

5x = 3y

so,

x = 3y/5

Now  let's substitute the value of x in (1)

so we get,

x + y = 40

3y/5 + y = 40

on taking LCM,

3y + 5y / 5 = 40

8y/5 = 40

8y = 40 * 5

8y = 200

y = 200/8

y = 25

And we got the answer!
