Let Son's age be x years

So, the Mother's age be (45 - x) years

Twice of Mother's age = 2(45 - x) years

= (90 - 2x) years

According to Question,

(90 - 2x) - x = 54

⇒ 90 - 3x = 54

⇒ 90 - 54 = 3x

⇒ 36 = 3x

⇒ 36 / 3 = x

⇒ 12 = x

Required Ages »

Son's age = x = 12 years

Mother's age = (45 - x) = (45 - 12)

= 33 years

Hence, the age of Mother is 33years and the age of Son is 12 years.

Given,

The sum of the age of the mother and son = 45 years

The subtraction of son's age from twice of mother's age = 54 years

To find,

Their ages in years.

Solution,

The age of the mother will be 33 years and that of the son will be 12 years.

We can easily solve this problem by following the given steps.

Now, let's take the mother to be x years and that of the son to be y years.

According to the question,

x + y = 45 --- equation 1

y = 45 - x ---- equation 2

2x - y = 54 ---- equation 3

Putting the value of y from equation 2 in equation 3,

2x - (45 - x) = 54

2x - 45+ x = 54

3x - 45 = 54

3x = 54 + 45 ( Moving 45 from the left-hand side to the right-hand side results in the change of sign from minus to plus.)

3x = 99

x = 99/3

x = 33 years

Putting the value of x in equation 2,

y = 45 - x

y = 45 - 33

y = 12 years

Hence, the age of the mother is 33 years and that of the son is 12 years.
