Let be the side of one sure be x
and of other be y
then, it is given that,,,
... 4x-4y = 24
... 4 (x-y) = 24
...y= x- 6
Now,
it is also given that,
x^2 + y^2 = 468
x^2 + ( x-6 ) ^2 = 468
x^2 +x^2 + 36 - 12x = 468
2x^2 - 12x - 432 = 0
= x^2 - 6x - 216 = 0
= x^2 - 18x + 12 x - 216 = 0
= x(x - 18) + 12 (x - 18) =0
= (x - 18) (x +12 )
x + 12 =0
x=-12 ( not exist)
x-18=0
x=18
.
So, the side of 1st square is 18m
and side of 2nd square is x-6,
18-6 = 12 m.
