x = 31 - y ------ Equation 3)

Pur equation 3 in 2

31 - y - 4y = - 9

-5y = - 9 - 31

- 5y = - 40

y = - 40 / - 5

y = 8

x + y = 31

x + 8 = 31

x = 31 - 8

x = 23

So Manish's age is 23 years

And Savita's age is 8 years.
