Total age of a mother and her daughter is 60 years

x + y = 60

and the difference between their ages is 30 years,

x - y = 30

What is the age of the mother?

x + y = 60

x - y = 30

x = 60 - y

x = 30 + y

60 - y = 30 + y

2y = 30

y = 15

x = 60 - y = 60 - 15 = 45

Mother is 45 and daughter is 15

Answer:

Mother's age = 45 years

Daughter's age = 15 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Sum of the ages of mother and daughter = 60 years

Let mother's age = (X)

Let daughter's age = (60 - X)

After 15 years mother's age will be :

(X+15)

After 15 years daughter's age will be :

(60 - X) + 15

As mother's age will be twice daughter's age after 15 years:

(X+15) = 2 (60-X+15)

X+15 = 120 - 2x + 30

X+15 = 150-2X

X+2X = 150-15

3X = 135

X =135 / 3

X = 45

Mother's age = X = 45 years

Daughter's age  = (60 - X) =15 years

Hence mother's present age is 45 years and daughter's present age is 15 years
