AnsWer :

23/6.

Given :

  • x + y = 3.
  • x = -5/6.

Solution :

  • Let the one number be x.
  • and other number be y.

A/Q,

\tt \dagger\:  \:  \:  \:  \:  x + y = 3. \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  - (1)

\tt \dagger\:  \:  \:  \:  \: x =   \dfrac{ - 5}{6}  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  - (2)

Now, Putting the value of x in Equation ( 2 ) We get.

\tt : \implies x + y = 3.

\tt : \implies  \dfrac{ - 5}{6} + y = 3.

\tt : \implies  \dfrac{ - 5 + 6y}{6} = 3.

\tt : \implies   - 5 + 6y= 18.

\tt : \implies   6y= 18 + 5

\tt : \implies   y=  \dfrac{23}{6}

Therefore, the Other number be 23/6.

Verification :

Taking Equation ( 1 )

\tt : \implies x + y = 3.

\tt : \implies  \frac{ - 5}{6}  +  \frac{23}{6}  = 3.

\tt : \implies  \dfrac{18}{6}   = 3.

\tt : \implies  \dfrac{ \cancel{18}}{ \cancel6}   = 3.

\tt : \implies  3 = 3.

Hence Verify.

GiveN:

  • Sum of two numbers = 3
  • One of the number = -⅚

To finD:

  • Other number

SolutioN:

Let the other number be x

→ x + (-5/6) = 3

→ x = 3 + ⅚

x = 23/6

Hence, other number is 23/6

VerificatioN:

Substituting the value of x

→ 23/6 + (-5/6) = 3

Taking LHS

→ 23/6 - 5/6

→ 23 - 5/6

→ 18/6

3

LHS = RHS

Hence verified!
