Answer:-

Let the numbers be "a" and "b".

given,

Sum of the numbers = 100

a + b = 100 -- equation (1)

Difference of the numbers = 10

a - b = 10 -- equation (2)

Add both the equations,

a + b + a - b = 100 + 10

2a = 110

a = 55

Substitute "a" value in equation (1)

a + b = 100

=> 55 + b = 100

=> b = 100 - 55

=> b = 45

Hence, the numbers are 55 and 45.

Question

sum of two number is hundred and the difference is 10 what are the numbers ?

Answer

Given,

  • the sum of two numbers is 100

let it be :- x + y = 100 ( equation I )

  • the difference of two number is 10

let it be :- x - y = 10 ( equation ii )

Now,

by adding both the equation we get ,

 =  > x + y + x - y = 100 + 10

 =  > x +  \cancel{y} \:  + x -  \cancel{y} \:  = 110

 =  > 2x = 110

 =  > x =  \frac{110}{2}

 =  > x = 55

Hence , one number is 55 .

Now,

substituting the value of x in the equation 1 we get ;

 =  > x + y = 100

 =  > 55 + y = 100

 =  > y = 100 - 55

 =  > y = 45

so then other number is 45 .

Hence, we get both the numbers 55 and 45 .

Verify

X + y = 100

=> 55 + 45

= 100

X - y = 10

=> 55 -45

= 10

Hence, verified !
