Concept:
First order equations include linear equations. In the coordinate system, the linear equations are defined for lines. A linear equation in one variable is one in which there is a homogeneous variable of degree 1 (i.e., only one variable). Multiple variables may be present in a linear equation. Linear equations in two variables, for example, are used when a linear equation contains two variables. Examples of linear equations include 2x - 3 = 0, 2y = 8, m + 1 = 0, x/2 = 3, and 3x - y + z = 3.
Given:-
Sum of two numbers is 190 and their difference is 40.
Find:
Find the ratio of larger and smaller number?
Solution:-
Let the two numbers be X and Y
and X>Y
Sum of the two numbers=190
=>X+Y=190------(1)
Difference between the two numbers=40
=>X-Y=40-----(2)
adding (1)&(2) then
X+Y=190
X-Y=40
(+)
_________
2X+0=230
_________
=>2X=230
=>X=230/2
=>X=115
Substitute the value of X in (1) then
=>115+Y=190
=>Y=190-115
=>Y=75
We have X=115 and Y=75
Larger number=115
Smaller number=75
The ratio of larger number and smaller number
=>115:75
=>115/75
=>(5×23)/(5×15)
cancelling 5
=>23/15
23:15
Therefore,The larger number=115
The smaller number=75
the ratio of larger and smaller number =23:15 =1.5333
