Take away the difference of 13 from the sum and the two numbers will be equal.
35 - 13 = 22
Divide by 2 to find the smaller number
22 ÷ 2 = 11
Add the 13 back to find the bigger number
11 + 13 = 24

x + y = 35
x - y = 13
x + y + x - y =35 + 13
2x = 48
x = 48/2
x = 24
x + y =35
