so given
x + y= 75
and x -y = 20
we know that
$x {}^{2} - y {}^{2} = (x + y)(x - y)$
so
$x {}^{2} - y {}^{2} = (x + y)(x - y) \\ = > x {}^{2} - y {}^{2} = 75 \times 20 \\ x {}^{2} - y {}^{2} = 1500$

now a square - b square = a+b *a-b
we know that we hav taken value of a +b = 75 and A-b = 20
now putting the values
a+b * a-b = 75.*20 = 1500
