Let the numbers be a and b

a + b = 10 -------(1)

a - b = 6 ----------(2)

Adding equation (1) and (2)

2 a = 16

a = 16 / 2

a = 8

Put the value of a in equation (1) we get ,

a + b = 10

8 + b = 10

b = 10 - 8

b = 2

Hence , the required numbers are

8 and 2 .
