Given,

sum of two rational numbers = - 1/2

One of them is 5/6

Let another one be x

so,

x +  \frac{5}{6}  =  \frac{ - 1}{2} \\  \frac{6x + 5}{6}  =  \frac{ - 1}{2}  \\ 6x + 5 =  - \frac{ - 1}{2}  \times 6 \\ 6x  + 5 =  - 3 \\ 6x =  - 3  - 5 \\ 6x =  - 8 \\ x =  \frac{ - 8}{6}  \\ x =  \frac{ - 4}{3}
