x+(-6)=-14/3
or,x=-14/3+6
or x=4/3

Let the other number be x

their sum is given as - 14/3

So we get equation

x + ( - 6 ) = - 14/3

x - 6 = - 14/3

x = - 14/3 + 6

x = - 14/3 + 18/3

x = 4/3
