GIVEN :-

  • A quadratic polynomial 2x² - 7x - 9.

TO FIND :-

  • The sum of zeros (ɑ + β).

SOLUTION :-

➠ 2x² - 7x - 9 = 0

➠ 2x² - 9x + 2x - 9 = 0

➠ x(2x - 9) + 1(2x - 9) = 0

➠ (x + 1)(2x - 9) = 0

➠ (x + 1) = 0 , (2x - 9) = 0

➠ x = -1 , 2x = 0 + 9

x = -1 , x = 9/2.

Hence the zeros of the quadratic polynomial 2x² - 7x - 9 are (-1) and (9/2).

Now,

ɑ = -1.

β = 9/2.

Now we have to find the sum of zeroes ( ɑ + β ),

➳ ɑ + β = -1 + 9/2

➳ ɑ + β = -2/2 + 9/2

➳ ɑ + β = (-2 + 9/2

➳ ɑ + β = 7/2

Hence the sum of zeros of the given quadratic polynomial is 7/2.
