Hey mate here's your answer.
When a herbivore, eats only a fraction of the energy becomes new body mass; the rest of the energy is lost as waste or used by the herbivore itself to carry out it's own life processes. Therefore, a carnivore has to eat many herbivore to get sufficient energy to survive and grow.
