The narrator's grandfather bought Toto for a sum of 5 Rupees from a Tonga Driver. Toto was a pretty monkey and his tail was adding his beauty. Grandfather brought Toto to his home. He already had some pets in his stable. Tori's first adventure started when he tore off ornamental wallpaper from the wall. He also turned narrator's school blazer into shreds. Toto always disturbed all other companions, when he was transferred to a big cage in the servant's quarter.
Toto also got a chance to travel in a train, when grandfather took him to Degrading by carrying him in a black canvas bag. Toto became a centre of attraction for the crowd standing at Degrading platform. The ticket collector was also taken aback when he saw a monkey in a bag.
When he was accepted by grandmother, he was given a comfortable home in the stable with companion Nana, the donkey. But they never became friends.To take bath in warm water was not less than a treat for Toto. But one day he was nearly boiled when he got into a boiling bowl. He always created nuisance in home. Grandfather could not afford the frequent lose of dishes, clothes, curtains and wallpapers. So , grandfather sold Toto back to the same Tonga driver for the sum of 3 rupees.
