HOPE IT HELPS YOU...
In the second chapter of The Canterville Ghost we are still in the creepy house named Canterville Chase with the American family. The storm (which started as soon as Mr. and Mrs. Otis's son Washington cleaned a blood stain off the floor) is still raging outside. When the family wakes up and goes to the sitting room, they discover that the blood stain has returned. Washington concludes that the ghost must be responsible for the stain's returning. He scrubs the stain off a second and third time, only to discover that it has reappeared overnight. At this point, even Mr. Otis admits that ''he had been too dogmatic in his denial of the existence of ghosts.''
The Ghost Makes an Appearance
One evening the family returned after a day spent outdoors, during which the subject of ghosts and spirits had not even come up. They talked about actresses and American development and even complained a bit about how hard it is to find their favorite foods in England. At eleven-thirty, everyone said their good nights and went to bed. A few hours later, Mr. Otis hears a noise outside his door. It is not a comforting sound; in fact, ''It sounded like the clank of metal, and seemed to be coming nearer every moment.'' Obviously, when there is an unknown metallic sound scraping around, the best course of action is to open the door and investigate.
