Story starts with an intro of main characters i.e. Charlie Bucket's family.

Charlie and his parents and four grandparents live together in a small house.

They're poor, hungry and pretty and in bad state.

One thing brightens Charlie's life is a chocolate factory owned by Willy Wonka that's in his neighborhood.

One chocolate bar he gets on his b'day.

Grandpa seems to know lot regarding Wonka's factory and he told Charlie bunch of stories about chocolate palace Mr. Wonka built and why he had close his factory because of spies stealing.

During one of these stories Charlie's dad enters with a news that Mr. Wonka will be giving his factory to five lucky children who will find Golden Tickets in his chocolate bars.

Contest! during his birthday where Charlie's whole family hopes that his bar will contain Golden ticket and guess what?

Grandpa Joe gives him some saved money to purchase one more.

One day when Charlie was walking home from school with hunger and feeling cold he finds little money on the ground and used it for purchasing chocolate.

Surely later he found his Golden ticket.
