Mr. Oliver was an Anglo Indian teacher who was a bachelor. he taught in the English public school in shimla which was 3 km away from the shimla bazaar. the School was given the title of the "ETON OF THE EAST "by the Life magazine in a feature of India. he stalked down the shimla bazaar every evening before returning to the school. (he probably lived in the school premises). he was brave and thus took a short cut through the pine forest even if the climate was worse. one such evening, while walking through the forest, he heard a child sitting on a rock and sobbing. he called the boy and asked the reason of his sobbing. the boy didn't answer. being a teacher, he showed his concern towards the boy and again asked the same. the boy looked up.Mr. Oliver held the torch and looked at his face.
he could see no facial features on his face. being extremely horrified, Mr. Oliver ran away in order to save his life. when he reached the school premises, there, the watchman, asked him the reason of his running and turned the lantern towards his face, Mr. Oliver, again, could not see any facial expressions on his face and was horrified again. soon, the wind blew away the light of the lantern.
