‘Justice above self’ is a story written originally in Hindi by Munshi Prem Chand. It was translated into English with the title ‘The Holy Panchayat’.
The story is about 2 best friends, Jumman and Algu. The story begins with a transfer of property issue between Jumman and his aunt, which she takes to the village panchayat. Although he is confident that he would win the case, the decision is later given in the aunt’s favor. The fact that the decision was taken by Algu makes Jumman treat him like an enemy and as a deceitful person. Later, when he was given a chance to solve the issue between Algu and Sahu, his conscience overpowers his feeling of revenge against Algu and he concludes his decision in favor of Algu.
Thus, it is concluded that justice is important and above all emotions and feelings.
