She went to Florida in USA with her father. Maria suffered a painful separation from her mother for a period of two years.
Maria Sharapova was born in Siberia, Russia, in 1987. She led a charge of Russian players who came to achieve great success in the women's game. She has brought her own brand of glamour to tennis by designing her own unique tennis outfits. At the 2007 US Open, she wore a dress with over 600 crystals sewn into it.
Being a Russian from the core of her heart, Maria would like to represent Russia in the Olympics and make them proud, if given an opportunity. Few would grudge her the riches she is now reaping. She refers to Maria Sharapova, the world renowned tennis player.

Maria took took just 4 years to reach the top of the world in tennis. she was not even 10 years old when she was sent to train in the US . her father went with her ,but she had to remain away from her mother for 2 years . her father too could see her very little because he had to labour hard at his work . thus Maria had to sacrificing a lot to gain excellence in tennis. "I used to be so lonely . I missed my mother terribly ." recalls Sharapova.
Maria was very young at that time .she used to go to bed at 8 pm.
the other tennis pupils would come in at 11 pm. they would wake her up and order her to clean the room .
