A Beautiful Day
I think everyone who writes songs or poetry ultimately desires to give voice to something that is truly worth saying, in a way that hasn’t been said before. The poet Wallace Stephens called this power and sense of wonder “the voice that is great within us” ( a line from his poem “Evening Without Angels” which I incorporated into the bridge of the song). This song also gives a nod to another famous poet, William Wordsworth, who frequently found God in nature and wrote about the beauty of his natural surroundings in England’s Lake District.
