Introduction:

The poet talks about how to make our life worthwhile. We should learn the good from every soul that touches our heart. It may be the slightest contact with them. But still, we have to get some, good from them. We need a little grace, one kind thought, a hope or an ambition of achieving our desire or wish. We also need a bit of courage to step into our darkening world. We need a shine of faith to face the evils and obstacles in our life. A quick look at the brighter side of life will make our life valuable and surely, heaven would be our inherited property.

Analysis:

In the poem Worth While the poet Ella Wheeler Wilcox begins the poem throwing light on the fact that when life flows smoothly without facing any trouble, it is easy for us to be nice and pleasant to everyone we come across. On the contrary when a man goes through struggle and challenges in life and everything in his or her life has gone wrong but he has managed to smile through all the pain that he is suffering is the man who is able to make his life worth living. We learn with age and experience that the true essence of life lies in being able to appreciate the gifts of the earth and to shine through all the hurdles in life. No matter what makes our life miserable, the one who has been able to overcome the problems in life needs to be appreciated. We are often told that we should always be careful especially while making a judgement but it is not always easy to do so. Life cannot be a piece of cake for everyone and there will always be temptations on our way. Often the temptations live within our soul or mind which is even more difficult to overcome or resist. The voice of sins often tries to tempt us to deviate from the path of honesty and to do something that is not the right thing to do but we always have to find the path of virtue which will lead us to our destination. Our virtues become time-tested when they have faced difficult choices and has finally been able to choose the right thing to do. We can prove ourselves to be the rightful successor of the earth only if we  are able to respect life by resisting the passions that might put us into a place which is not desired. We must never lose our strength to fight against the odds. The people who are dishonest and have somehow deviated from the path of morality, they might have lost their courage to stand up for what is right and therefore the path of virtue is obstructed for them. But there is always a way to rise and fight back by conquering our passion. We must always let our virtues win over the vices. Those who have been able to win over their pain and sorrow with a bright smile on their face are the ones who are worth living on the earth. We might not find them very often in life but they are the ones who have paid their tribute to the mother earth by choosing the path of virtue.
